To His Excellency
Charles J McDonald
Sir
I had the honour [honor] to Receive your Communication of the
18th of October Wishing me to forward to the Executive Department a Correct Statement of the amount of pay Due Each Officer, Noncommissioned, officer, & private Under my Command -- As i am not aware of What Length of time your Excelency [Excellency] wished me to compute the pay for, -- I might add that i am under the impression that Mounted Militia is Entitled to the Same Pay & Emoluments as Cavalry of the U.S. if So it May Be necessary to Make a Statement of the time Each Detachment was mustered into Service;
That Under Lieut. Johnson was mustered [added text: in ] on the
19th of March (to Wit) one Lieut. two Sergants [Sergeants] two Corparals [Corporals] & twenty Six Privates.
The Detachment at this Place was mustered into Service on the
22d of March. that included myself -- Lieut - Burnsides two Sargts [Sergeants] two Corporals & twenty Six Privates
The Detachment in Lowdnes was mustered into Service on the
26th of Sept it Consisted of One Lieut -- two Sargants [Sergeants] two Corpls [Corporals] & thirty Six Privates
Making the aggragate [aggregate] one hundred & four; perhaps i may have Erred By

Having my Company over one hundred Strong; though i understood my orders were to Raise the Stated number of men & place under Command of their Respective officers which i have Done
No appearance of the Enemy in this part of the Country that we can find
