- This document is a letter from Greene R. Duke to Governor of Georgia, David B. Mitchell (1809-1813, 1815-1817), dated August 24, 1813. Greene informs the governor that he has recently learned of an intended expedition against an unnamed group of Indians (probably the Upper Creeks) and wishes to be involved in the excursion as a soldier. Dr [Dear] Sir
I beg leave to Tender you my services in any way you may be pleased to accept them for the Indian Expedition. I am Informed by one of the papers in Milledgeville that your Excellency will Take the Command in person as an old staff officer I claim your [unclear text: feelings ] in this case, I have been duped by my friends as to a United States appointment pray Give me some situation in this Indian Excurtions [Excursions] where I can be usefull [useful] to my Country and do Honor to the appointment, I am armed [illegible text] for any service the moment I hear from you I am ready, for we may [illegible text] the war in solitude in this place and never be more noticed then mice
