I am Informed by one of the papers in Milledgeville that your Excellency will Take the Command in person as an old staff officer I claim your [unclear text: feelings ] in this case, I have been duped by my friends as to a United States appointment pray Give me some situation in this Indian Excurtions [Excursions] where I can be usefull [useful] to my Country and do Honor to the appointment, I am armed [illegible text] for any service the moment I hear from you I am ready, for we may [illegible text] the war in solitude in this place and never be more noticed then mice Page: [2] in a mill, I trust you have Some Friendship less for me yet, you know that I am active give me a chance and it is all I will ask of you or my Government and will pledge myself on the honor of a Soldier to give a good account of the Charge intrusted to my Care -- yours with Great Esteem and Respect [Signed] Greene R.
