To his Excellency Edw.d [Edward] Telfair, Esqui [document folded: re ] Governor and Commander in Chief in and over the State aforesaid, and the militia thereof.
The Petition of Buckner Harris, of the County of Wilkes, Respectfully sheweth [shows] ,
That he has lately entered into the mercantile line, and has now on hand an assortment of goods suitable for the Indian Trade; and is desirous of vending the said goods to the Cherokees and other friendly tribes of Indians, as may come within the County of Greene or its vicini [document damaged: ty ] . But understanding that a Licence [License] is essen [document damaged: tial ] in such cases, he humbly prays that the same may be granted him.

I have been acquainted with Captain Buckner Harris, the Petitioner, six or seven years, during which time he has acted in several public trusts in Wilkes County very much, as I have ever understood, to his credit, and to the satisfaction of the County.
