16th. Oct. 1818
Sir,
I have received your letter of the 1st instant.
After a full examination into the appropriations of the current year, (the estimates for which were formed, before I came into the office,) I cannot find any provision made for the payment of the $3000 promised to the Creeks, by the treaty of Fort Wilkinson, in
1802. This sum will be remitted with the annuity of next year.
A warrant for one thousand, five hundred dollars, has been issued in your favour [favor], to pay the annuity, agreeably to the treaty of
1790.
The thirty one thousand dollars

[Signed] J. [John] C. Calhoun D. [David] B. Mitchell, Indian Agent, Creek Agency, Georgia.
