Page: [1] War Dept. 16th. Oct. 1818 Sir, I have received your letter of the 1st instant. After a full examination into the appropriations of the current year, (the estimates for which were formed, before I came into the office,) I cannot find any provision made for the payment of the $3000 promised to the Creeks, by the treaty of Fort Wilkinson, in 1802. This sum will be remitted with the annuity of next year. A warrant for one thousand, five hundred dollars, has been issued in your favour [favor], to pay the annuity, agreeably to the treaty of 1790. The thirty one thousand dollars Page: [2] already transmitted, is intended to satisfy the annuities under the treaties of 1805, and 1818, and will be applied, accordingly. I am, Sir, very respecty. [respectfully] Your most obedt. Servt., [obedient Servant] [Signed] J. [John] C. Calhoun D. [David] B. Mitchell, Indian Agent, Creek Agency, Georgia. Page: [3] War Dept. 16th.
