- Description:
- A photograph of the first prize Smith-Hughes Soil Improvement Program exhibit at the Georgia State Fair, Macon, Bibb County, 1925. The exhibit was a collaboration between Jeffersonville High School (Jefferson, Twiggs County, Georgia) and Danville High School (Danville, Twiggs County and Wilkinson County, Georgia). Corn, cotton, and vetch are on display along with information about the soil improvement program's results. Vocational education such as this was made possible by the 1917 Smith-Hughes Act, named after co-writers Hoke Smith (former Georgia governor) and Dudley Hughes.
