undred pounds for green stock in large
ts. The Georgia acreage for spring har-
est is about 400 less than in 1938..

POTATOES: Georgia new crop pota-

on the Atlanta market, but light offer-

good, but large receipts from Florida have
prevented prices from advancing.
STRAWBERRIES: A few Georgia
local Klondike in 24 quart crates have

SOUTH GEORGIA MARKETS
A Onions are moving from the Glennville and Clax-
- ton markets packed in fifty pound bags. If weather
conditions are favorable during the next few days,
_ several truckloads per day will be available in that
- gection-around May 5th.
ce New crop Irish potatoes are being marketed at
- these markets at fair prices and the growers are mar-
keting their Irish potatoes as fast as possible before
other states get under way in moving their crop.
re The tomato outlook is better and light move-
ments will begin around May 15th. .
Cucumbers, squash and other vegetables are al-
- go looking good. :
; On the Valdosta market produce has started
coming in in small quantities. The production out-
look for this section is good. Most of the cabbage
have moved out at a good price. However, this sec-
tion does have a crop coming on now and is just about
eady for cutting.
Snap beans and Red Bliss potatoes are also com-
ing on the market and it is reported the quality in this
section is good. : -
: The Valdosta section has a large acreage in can-
taloupes and watermelons this year and weather con-
ditions for these two crops so far have been excellent.
Thomasville market has been marketing mostly
-eabbage during the past two weeks and the prices re-
_ ceived have been very good.
price, but in the last day or two the demand has
slowed down considerably.
LIVESTOCK AUCTION
Announcement is made that the 11th annual

TOMATO FESTIVAL
May 25th has been set as the date for the sec-
ond Tomato Festival to be held at Glennville, the
Junior and Senior Chambers of Commerce there an-
nounce. ae
_ Glennville has become a thriving tomato growing
section in South Georgia and the Festival is held to
show the people of the state the fine quality of To-
-Imatoes grown there and to emphasize the Glennville
market. |
The Festival last year drew a large crowd.
POULTRY SHOW
Plans are developing rapidly for the World
Poultry Congress to be held in Cleveland, Ohio, from
July 28th to August. 7th. Many Georgia poultry rais-
_ erg are planning to attend and take part in this Ex-
he

GEORGIA COWS AT FAIR >
Dr. J. M. Sutton, State Veterinarian, has ap-
proved the health certificate of two purebred cows
that have been selected to represent Georgia dairy
1erds at the New York Worlds Fair.
__One of the cows is a registered Guernsey owned
by the Reigeldale Farms at Trion, and the other is a
registered Jersey from Berry Schools at Mount Berry.
Mr. Frank W. Fitch, of the dairy department of
the Extension Service, Athens, says, This national
honor has come to these two fine cows because of
their outstanding accomplishments and they should
be seen by all who visit the Fair. :
___ The Guernsey has a record of 15,342 pounds of
milk and 963 pounds of butterfat, made as a two-year
old. The Jersey has a record of 9,146 pounds of milk
nd 478 pounds of butterfat in 305 days.
_ Georgia is thus signally honored by having these
oe selected to represent our growing Dairy in-
ustry. :
