As I go over the state and see the great changes
in farming, I am convinced that the present Soil
Saving plan undertaken by the Roosevelt adminis-
tration is doing more to save our land from washing
away and to build up the soil than has been done
in the last 50 years before the program was begun.

one; cover crops are being planted | and the land

Oyster Beds Improved
Great improvement is being made in Georgia
oyster beds Dr. E, P. Long, Chief Food Inspector of
the Agriculture department states. He says Geor-
gia people should eat more Georgia. oysters,
| which are as fine as any from any. section and
contain the vitamins, protein and minerals, which
include calcium, iron, manganese, copper, iodine
and other elements. :
Long Is Appointed
Commissioner Columbus Roberts announces the
appointment. of Mr. E. P. Long, of Bartow, Jeffer-
son county, as Chief Food Inspector of the Depart-
ment of Agriculture. He has been with the De-*
partment since 1937 and has been Acting Chief

The preliminary report of the Tobacco vote held on Oc-
tober 5, issued by the United States Department of Agriculture,
shows that in Georgia, 16,824 votes were cast for control and
2,992 against.
