The Life of...
Grady Sullivan, 83, of Bloomfield, beloved husband for 30 years of Elizabeth
(McMullen) Sullivan, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.
Grady was born in Augusta, GA, son of the late Geat and Lucille (Mealing)
Sullivan, and attended schools in Augusta. After graduation, Grady proudly
served his country in the United States Air Force. He also attended Springfield
Technical College and majored in Firefighter Studies. Grady was employed
by the City of Hartford as a Firefighter and Ladder Driver, retiring after 30
years of service to the City. He was a member of The Phoenix Society, Inc. of
Hartford, Connecticut, and the American Legion.
Grady was a caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle,
cousin, and dear friend. He will be fondly remembered as a man who loved
his family dearly and would do anything for someone in need. If you needed
anything, he was always there for you. He had a special and beautiful friendship
with his Granddaughter, Eva, and grew attached to her dog, Suede. Grady
was a God-fearing man and was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in
Bloomfield. More than anything, Grady loved to travel with Liz to the Cape
and the Virgin Islands, and especially enjoyed getting in the car and going to
visit friends and relatives in Augusta, Atlanta, New York, Chicago, and Philly.
Grady was a wonderful friend, and you could always find him hanging out
with his friends on Barbour Street. He loved clothes and shoes and always
made sure he was dressed to the nines. Grady always took meticulous care
of his cars and took pride in having the latest model. He loved his yard and
would spend countless hours making sure his lawn was well manicured. He
was known to be a great entertainer and loved to BBQ with his family and
friends. He also loved to dance and listen to all kinds of music, particularly
Blues, Smooth Jazz, and R&B.
Besides his wife and best friend, Liz, he is survived by his children, Anna
Princess Carrington Sullivan, Joseph Grady Sullivan, Scott Sullivan and his
wife Toni, and Lagwana McMullen; his grandchildren, Sydney Tyler Coffee,
Brittany Louise Morgan, Jaquan Sullivan-McCalop, Jordan Lena Sullivan,
Wyatt Joseph Sullivan, and Eva Torres; great grandson, Dallas Easton
Morgan; his siblings, Rosia Sullivan Key and her husband Victor Vic Key,
Geat Sullivan, Jr., Roger Sullivan and his wife Annette, and Diane Howell;
his brother-in-law, Freddie Jones; a special cousin, Larry Sullivan; his great
niece, Shaylin McMullen-Bell; great nephew, Stephan Page; and a host of
other relatives and dear friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Shirley Jones and
Maxine Sullivan Walltower; and his sister-in-law, Blanche Sullivan.
