- During an oral history interview on August 24,1982, Dr. Mabel Sherman describes her experiences as an educator within the Cairo community. She discusses themes of voter suppression, segregation, and political leadership in Grady County. Sherman discusses examples of violence against Black people including the 1946 Moore's Ford Lynching in Monroe, Georgia. She also discusses school inequalities during segregation such as teacher salaries and supply access. Funding for digitization provided by the Georgia Public Library Service, a unit of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, using Library Services and Technology Act funding through the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
