- Description:
- Postcard (color, 3 ½ x 5 ½ inches) titled Excuse me madam, but do you know what you are sitting on? – This postcard features a cartoon depicting a man and a woman sitting on a bench in a waiting room. The lady is sitting on the man’s top hat and the following text appears at the bottom of the card: Pardon me madam, but do you know what you are sitting on? Well I ought to. I’ve been sitting on it more’n forty years. This card was one of a series drawn by Donald Fraser Gould McGill (28 January 1875 – 13 October 1962). McGill was an English graphic artist whose name has become synonymous with the genre of saucy postcards. His work is collected and appreciated for his artistic skill, its power of social observation and earthy sense of humor. No descriptive text on reverse.
