- Postcard (color, divided back, 3 ½ x 5 ½ inches) titled Highland Foot-Post - A woman hands over a message to be delivered by foot-post. The card features a reproduction of a painting by Robert Ronald McIan (1803 – 13 December 1856 who was a Scottish actor and painter. He is best known for romanticized depictions of Scottish clansmen, their battles and domestic life. The illustrations were published in the book 'Gaelic gatherings, or the Highlanders at Home on heather, river and loch', published 1847-49, with accompanying text by James Logan Logan points out in the book that the Penny Post (introduced by Rowland Hill in 1840) was unprofitable in Scotland, so many Highland lairds kept a 'running footman' whose job was to run errands and deliver letters No text on reverse.
