- Description:
- In this series of clips, military personnel at Fort Gordon demonstrate the use of various pieces of military hardware including a pistol, machine guns, mortars, and flamethrowers.
The opening clips are of civilians exiting a bus and being greeted by military personnel, moving behind and entering the reviewing stands. There is also a clip of gathered military men in uniform.
The demonstrations begin with two clips showing light machine guns set up on their tripods, a clip of mortars with the rounds stacked to the side, and a clip of a field gun. The next five clips are of explosions in the distance.
The next clip shows a soldier firing a device for launching smoke bombs, followed by two clips showing the resulting smoke.
In the next two clips, a standing soldier demonstrates loading the magazine into the grip of a handgun, possibly a Browning.
The next six clips show soldiers, singly and in pairs, firing machine guns and rifles from prone positions.
Tracer rounds are shown in the next two clips. The first clip shows a pair of kneeling soldiers firing the gun, while the second clip also shows the effect of the tracer bullets in the distance.
The next six clips demonstrate the use and effect of flamethrowers. The first three clips are distance shots, while the next two are middle range. The last shot pans from dark smoke in the sky to ground fires.
Mortar fire is demonstrated in the next nine clips that show various elevations of the mortar launchers and the distant explosions that result.
The last seven clips show soldiers in defensive fighting positions, also known as foxholes, and several explosions in the distance. This is a demonstration of the "mad minute," a term that describes any short period of intense weapons fire.
