- Description:
- Art Rosenbaum records Dr. B. Skelton playing traditional songs on autoharp in Atlanta, Georgia. Skelton provides some background about each song, many of which he learned from his grandmother. His grandmother was Rosa Lorena Turner and his grandfather was Charles C. Turner, one of the earliest pharmacists in Atlanta. Some songs he wrote, such as "Jane Dunn," which is about a girl he courted who did not believe in Santa Claus. He talks about the song "The Ballad of Fon and Mr. O," which is about an injured man and a bank owner in Winder, Georgia. He is asked if he is familiar with a song about the burning of the Winecoff Hotel, but he is not. He also mentions "Barbara Allen" and "Little Mary Phagan." Songs: Medley Of Pop Songs, A Roamin' Country Gink, The Miller's Will, Don't Marry An Old Man, Four Nights Drunk, Jane Dunn, The Ballad of Fon And Mr. O., Oh Doctor, Interview, Whistle Mary Whistle, Old Rugged Cross.
