- Description:
- Part one of a four-part recording. Art Rosenbaum's recording of Ray Knight (fiddle) and Ed Teague (guitar, banjo). Ray Knight listens to L.D. Snipes on tape and plays fiddle, followed by Ed Teague on guitar. Rosenbaum interviews Ray Knight on L.D. Snipes' music and family history. Snipes was originally from Commerce, Georgia, and he played with Gid and Gordon Tanner, Earl Johnson, and Cotton Cary[?], who Knight still plays with. Knight discusses the origins of Snipes' song "Dawsonville Jail." Snipes had radio shows in Buford, and at WSB in Atlanta. Snipes taught Knight to play Riley Puckett-style, and could play the fiddle "21 different ways," including bowing with his toes. Knight also talks about "Fiddlin" Earl Johnson. Knight's family is from Gwinnett County, and many of his family members are part Cherokee Indian. Next, Ed Teague plays guitar and banjo. Teague is from Lavonia, Georgia, and originally from Clayton, Georgia in Raven County. Songs: Wildwood Flower, Bull In The Backwoods, Love Somebody, Yaller Gal Dress In Blue, Run Nigger Run, Stavin Chains, New River Train, Bile The Cabbage, Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss, Old Molly Have Good Words.
