- Description:
- Video of the 1984 North Georgia Folk Festival in Athens, Georgia. The video begins with Doc Barnes and Lucy Barnes performing gospel songs with the Gospel Chorus. Doc Barnes accompanies the Chorus on guitar. Jake Rakestraw performs blues music next, on guitar and vocals. The video includes shots of the festival attendees, who are sitting on the ground and watching the performances on stage. Rakestraw briefly introduces his songs, including a story about a fortune teller and a gypsy that inspired the song "Market Street." The Gospel Chorus returns to the stage to perform more songs, with Nathaniel and Fleeta Mitchell leading on vocals and piano. Next, Lawrence Eller and Ross Brown perform old-time music on banjo and fiddle. Finally, Bessie Sheats of the Gospel Chorus plays blues songs on piano. The annual folk music festival is organized by the Athens Folk Music & Dance Society.
