- Video of the first annual North Georgia Folk Festival in Athens, Georgia, 1984. Part 1 of 2. Joe Rakestaw plays several songs on guitar. Fleeta and Nathaniel Mitchell and Doc and Lucy Barnes perform gospel music, with Fleeta Mitchell on piano and Doc Barnes on guitar. Songs: Old Time Religion, You Got to Make Things Right That Is Wrong, You Better Mind, I Done What You Told Me To Do, I Know the Lord Laid His Hand on Me, Up Above My Head, It's My Desire, Jesus Will Make It Alright. The Community Relations Director and Project Director are interviewed about organizing the festival. They discuss how the festival got started in Athens, getting artists to perform, the type of music they wanted to showcase, and how they hope to continue the annual festival. W. Guy Bruce is interviewed next. He talks about his background in old-time music and learning to play banjo. Bruce then performs several songs on banjo. Songs: Boil Them Cabbage Down, Cumberland Gap, Old Joe Clark, John Henry, Cindy. Lawrence Eller performs on banjo with Ross Brown on fiddle. Songs include: On the Rock Where Moses Stood, Going Down the Road Feeling Bad. Bluegrass group Southern Crescent perform last. Songs: World is Waiting for the Sunrise, Lonesome River. Camera also periodically pans around the audience.
