- Description:
- Statement of chain of possession of a Colonels Island tract of land, dated at Savannah on July 22, 1817. J. White [probably James White] stated that he had purchased 300 acres of land called Vandyke's Land in three tracts bounded north by the estate of Daniel Myers, east and south by Newport River marshes and VanDykes Creek, and west by land vacant at time of survey. Peter Vandyke bought the land about 1776 from the family of Walter Parker and "one McGee". Vandyke sold it to Mr. Smidt [probably Schmidt] of Sunbury, who died, and White bought it from his widow in 1797 for $500. She had promised to make title but died, and he has been unable to get title.
