Letter from Julia R. King at "King's Land" (Merritt Island, Florida) dated January 24, 1940 to "Dear Friend of Mine." Tells her about Colonel Joseph Law, apparently at recipient's request; says he married her great-great aunt, Elizabeth Stevens. Provides detailed information about him and his property, mentions the Mallard family. Notes that although $500 was left so that Roswell King plot in Midway Cemeter should be kept in perfect order, the name Roswell King on his tombstone cannot be read. Relates story of Colonel Joseph Law's son dying in a fire. Detailed account of old Colonels Island and life there. Names house and place names: Laws, Half Moon Bluff, Woodville, Maxwellton, Carrick-fergus, Hart, Ballou, Harris, Gould, Maybank, Jones, King's Land, Yellow Bluff. Recounts how she came to sell her land. Tells of mistake in Lucian Lamar Knight's book "Georgia's Landmarks, Memorials, and Legends." Looking for records of the Fleming family for her book.
