buyer at the very moment he wants what you have
to sell.
Directions
This Directory lists all subscribers In relative alpha-
betical sequence without respect to community or ex-
change. Telephone numbers are immediately preceded
by abbreviations of the exchange through which the
particuldr subscriber may be reached. These abbre-
viations and the corresponding name of the exchange
are shown at the top of each page of listings.
TO ILLUSTRATE: A subscriber to the Cornelia Ex-
change wants to reach the Business Office of the
Tallulah Falls Railway. He notes the number is listed
as Crn-67. Being on the Cornelia Exchange himself he
simply signals the Cornelia Operator and asks for num-
ber six seven. If he wants the Clarkesville Depot, how-
ever, he asks the Cornelia Operator for "Clarkesville."
When the Clarkesville Operator answers he gives her
the number indicated which is two seven R three.
All subscribers in Mt Airy and Baldwin and some in
Demorest, thru the Cornelia Exchange. The majority
of Demorest subscribers and all Habersham subscribers
are reached through Clarkesville.

Rules and Regulations
The responsibility of a public service institution, such as your telephone company, is
quite an undertaking. The objective is not limited to the rendering of good service as
an end in itself; but embraces the extension of that service to the greatest number of
people at the lowest possible cost. Experience has proven that certain fundamental
policies and practices must be closely adhered to if the public service agent is to faith-
fully fulfill its obligation to the community. Some of the practices followed by this com-
pany are listed here.
Abuse of Service
The Telephone Company reserves the right
to terminate, without advance notice, service
and fa remove- its facilities when it knows or
has reason to believe that they are being
used for illegal purposes; or are being used
in such a manner as to interfere with or un-
reasonably impair the service normally ex-
pected by other subscribers.
Business Rate
Service subject to the business rate may
be determined by the location of the tele-
phone instrument, or, the primary use made
of the service. The business rate will apply
when the telephone is located on premises
primarily and essentially used for business
purposes such as offices, stores, shops, foc-
tories and garages. The business rate may
also apply to telephones located in domestic
establishments when the service is used sub-
stantially for, or advertised for business
purposes.
Company's Privilege
The Telephone Company reserves the right
to suspend without notice all service over
facilities that have apporently been aban-
doned and to demand payment for all
charges up ta and including the date of sus-
pension, provided no official notice to sus-
pend such service has been received prior
thereto.
The Telephone Company reserves the fur-
ther right to enter the premises of an appli-
cant or subscriber at any reasonable hour for
the purpose of installing, inspecting, repair-
ing or removing any of its equipment
located, or to be located, thereon.
Company's Responsibility
The Telephone Company cannot be re-
sponsible for delays or failures in establishing
service. Its obligation to furnish service is
limited to its ability to obtain and provide
all essential facilities, including right of way,
at a cost consistent with the expected reve-
nue to be derived therefrom.
The Telephone Company undertakes to fur-
nish facilities and equipment for the use ot
the subscriber in transmitting and receiving
oral messages. It does not accept for trans-
mission, or delivery, messages of any kind,
nor will it be responsible for any attempt on

the part of its employees to repeat or other*
wise assist in transmitting a message.
Contracts
The establishment of service on an appli-
cant's premises evidences the consummation
of a satisfactory agreement between the
subscriber and the Telephone Company
which shall continue in force until properly
terminated.
When not otherwise specified the mini-
mum period of a service contract is thirty
days. Service will be established and ren-
dered for a shorter period but the charges
therefor will be equal to all normal and in-
cidental charges for a period of thirty days.
Deposits
when service is desired for a temporary
period, or if it is to be used extensively for
Long Distance services, or if the credit of the
applicant is unknown or doubtful a deposit
may be required as security against failure
to pay for services rendered or charges ac-
cruing against the account.
Errors, Omissions and Interruptions
Common interest requires due consider-
ation of human and mechanical failure;
therefore the Telephone Company's responsi-
bilityfor claims arising out of any errors or
failure alleged to have occurred over its
facilities or within its organization is limited
to a prorata adjustment, or rebate, not to
exceed the applied rate for the period dur-
ing which such failure or error continued.
Rebates and adjustments growing out of
errors or failures alleged to have occurred on
the lines, or within the organization, of other
companies jointly rendering the service is
limited to such amount as this company may
be able to recover from the other company
without resorting to legal procedure or ex-
traordinary expense.
Payable Dates
Charges for currently running local ex-
change service are due and payable on the
first working day of the month in which the
service is rendered. Charges for toll services
are payable upon presentation of bill there-
for. All other charges are payable in ad-
vance or upon presentation of bill therefor.
If the service is terminated at the initiative

of the subscriber all charges immediately
become due and payable.
Failure to pay for service within fifteen
dpys after the due date, or within fifteen
days after presentation of bill therefor ren-
ders the service subject to suspension.
Residence Rates
Telephones located in residences and used
primarily for domestic purposes are entitled
to the rate for residence service. If, how-
ever, such service is used substantially for,
or advertised tor, business purposes the busi-
ness rate may be applied.
. Telephone Numbers
Mechanical distributian of telephone serv-
ice requires that all telephone numbers re-
main the property of the telephone company
and that they be subject to change without
advance notice. The Telephone Company
does not prohibit nor discourage the pub-
lishing or advertising of telephone numbers
tor business purposes, but the subscriber
must assume all responsibility incidental
thereto.
Toll Service
This Company maintains physical connec-
tions with the Southern Bell Telephone and
Telegraph Company, and with other tele-
phone companies, over which we are pre-
pared to establish communication channels
with nearly all points withiri the United
States, most foreign countries and many
ships at sea, during peace times. This service
is rendered subject to tariffs,.rules and regu-
lations prescribed and filed with the Georgia
Public Service Commission and the Federal
Communications Commission by the Bell
Company.
Unauthorized Equipment
Dependable and continuous service re-
quires close control over all equipment and
apparatus used in rendering that service,
therefore, the Telephone Company reserves
the right to disconnect or remove any for-
eign or unauthorized equipment it may find
attached to or connected with its facilities:
and to apply in whole or in part its estab-
lished rates and charges to any foreign or
privately owned equipment or apparatus
it may permit to be attached to or used
in connection with its equipment and ap-
paratus.
