Know all men by these presents that I
Frederick E. Brooking of the County & State aforesaid
of the one part, & William P. Haynes of the County of
Washington & state aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth
that we have exchanged the following negro slaves
to wit, Gabriel a man about twenty one years old
held, owned, & possessed by the said Frederick E. for a man
named Hartwell about forty years of age, held, owned,
& possessed by the said William P. he the said Willian P.
paying the sum of fifty dollars as a fair & equitable
difference in their value, the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged. - Now the said Frederick E. doth has
gain, release, alieu, exchange, dispose of, & convey to the
said William P. all right, title, & claim whatever to
the said Negro man Gabriel, to the said William P.
his heirs, assigns, executors, and administrators, to have &
to hold against him the said Frederick E. his heirs
assigns, executors & administrators, & against the claim
or claims of all other persons forever. In testimony
whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal, this
seventeenth of January in the year of our Lord one
thousand eight hundred & thirty four.
