Know all Men by these presents that we
Ann S Hankinson and Thomas S Hankinson both of the county and State
aforesaid being jointly interested in the ownership of certain Negro property,
named as follows viz. - Matilda, Alfred, Charles, Milo, Alec, Louisiana,
Caroline and Ellen- the last named seven being the Children of the first
named viz.- Matilda- also Sophy, Joe, Harriet, Isaiah and Watkins[?]
- the last named four, being the Children of the first named, viz. Sophy;
also John, Simon and Jack; being sixteen in all; the first named
fourteen negros inherited jointly by us have and through our Mother,
Mary C Newman, family Mary C Hankinson of the District of
Barnwell and State of South Carolina, deceased, and the last named
two negros inherited also jointly have and through our said Mother
and our Father, Steven Hankinson also of the District of Barnwell
and State of South Carolina, deceased; And being desirous that a
division should be created and take place between us of the afore-
said Negro Property, to the intent that each party may know, deter-
mine and as certain to which of us the said Negroes severally[?] espe-
cially and patiently[?] belong; have agreed and we do hereby
agree and bind ourselves both jointly and severally by these presents,
to the division of the said Negros Viz.- Matilda and her seven
children, and John as aforesaid, being nine in number, as the
share and portion of, me, Ann S Hankinson; and Sophy and her
four children, and Jack and Simon as aforesaid, being seven
in number, as the share and portion of, me, Thomas S Hankinson

And which said agreement we bind ourselves both jointly and
severally, our Heirs, Executors and Administrators both in Law and
Equity- faithfully to observe. And it is hereby farther agreed and is ex-
expressly understood, that I, Thomas S. Hankinson, not having yet arri-
ved at the age of twenty one years and having a guardian to act on my
part, but being nevertheless [unknown] and desirous that the division of the
aforesaid named sixteen Negroes should take place be made and determined
between my said sister Ann S Hankinson and me Thomas S. Hankinson and, do
hereby bind and oblige myself both in Honor, Law and Equity, that on
my arriving at the age of twenty one years as aforesaid to satisfy and
confirm in every particular this said agreement with my, said
sister Ann S Hankinson, her heirs, Executors, and Administrators,
and should I decease before arriving at the age of twenty one years
as aforesaid, then and in that case I Thomas S Hankinson, as
also bind and oblige my heirs, assigns, Executors, and Administrators
faithfully to perform and confirm this said agreement so made
as aforesaid, and to the true intent and meaning thereof.
In witness whereof we have hereunto se our hands and affixed
our seals this Twenty Fourth day of May in the year of our Lord
One thousand eight hundred and forty seven.
