Dear Sir,
We are selling more Lumber then usual Since
You were here I will have Sold most
As Much By Christmas as the Fore
part of the year, Calloways Have Started
their grist Mill and we do not get
As much grinding as we did though
We get enough. We get Bacon's and Child's
grinding and from that Down.
I have finished Walton's House Bill,
I Bought one Barrel of Syrup at $1.00.00 [?]
[a gallon] though it is selling at $1.50 and $2.00.
Pork Sells at 16 lb [?] @ 20cts likely to be plenty
in this County. I Have killed Four Hogs
which weighed 50 lbs, we have had very
heavy rain last week and very cold
weather since, cold enough to make ice
in thick, the Ballance of the hogs are
improving. But Slowly.
We have Small pox in this County
Bullard's Family have it. And His Son's
Family also. The inferior Court Met and
placed a yard [or guard?] round their places. So as
to hear you [?] pass out or in

Also for Some one Else to Do their
Milling. No one has died with it yet
His Son Brought it From this [?] without
knowing it untill it was to late to
prevent the Family from taking it.
I am going to vaccinate myself and
All the Negros this week though I have
Been Vaccinated twice.
I do not know what to do with
Sam he will run about of nights
without regard to any thing I can do to prevent
it I have whipped Him time & again but
all to no purpose last Saturday Night he
Went off and never returned till Monday
Morning Half Hour after Sunrise with
Collins dogs on his track, I tied Him
up and give Him the Most Severe Whipping
that He ever did get starting the hide in
Several places, and He promised Me & Collins
to never to go again and it is now one
week and He is off again and I don't
Expect to see him till in the Morning.
He will Concoct plans with Negros that
Comes to the Mill through the week that lives 18 to 20
Miles off and Sam will pay them a visit
On the Saturday night following Sam wants
to Be at a place where he will see no negros
But those Belonging there and very few white

Men then He can be Managed I
have no trouble with any of the others,
Nor with him for an thing else but
running about. I will try and do
the Best I Can towards making Him
stay at home, we have plenty,
of Water since the late rains which
is one great convenience, Salt is Selling
at the Coast at $8 to 10 per Bushel,
I Have rec'd 7 bushels from George Davis [or Davy]
We are all well at present with
the exception of some cold
