- Originally built by Albert Semmes (1810-1883) and built as a 2 over 2 house (duplex) in the saltbox style circa 1835. The house was sold to Mary Sneed in 1836.Later owned by Samuel Barnett (1842-1896), Georgia's first railroad commissioner and editor of the Augusta Chronicle. Barnett's heirs sold it to William Armstrong Slaton in 1913 who held the property until his death in 1954. Variant names include: Washington Historical Museum.
