- Description:
- The Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site, established in 1974 through a family donation, features the original 1847 heart pine plantation house with original furnishings. John Fitz Jarrell, the builder, owned 600 acres farmed by 42 enslaved African laborers by 1863. Post-Civil War, he continued farming his expanded 1,000-acre property with formerly enslaved Africans. John's son, Dick returned to the farm, building a small house in 1895 that expanded to accommodate his family of 12 children. Dick diversified operations, using steam engines to power various mills and farm equipment. Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site is now located in Juliette, Georgia, in Jones County. Variant names include: Jarrell Plantation. See ref # 73000624 (Jarrell Plantation) https://www.nps.gov/subjects/nationalregister/upload/national-register-listed-20240710.xlsx
