- Description:
- Artist's Statement by Molly Hayden: What does activism look like? In early January 2017, the anticipation of the upcoming Women's March on Washington was looming. To showcase Savannah's strong presence, I turned my camera on the brave women (and a few men) who stood up for equality and marched for freedom. During three separate photo shoots, I photographed more than 200 Savannah residents for posterity and to show the faces of the resistance. I also asked them to share why they were marching. The answers were as diverse as the subjects.
"I want to live in a world where as one of many sexual assault survivors, we are not represented by a man who has bragged getting away with it. I march with my sisters of color who have been in this fight longer than I and are everything. I march because we must demand justice for the indigenous, for immigrants, for Muslims threatened to be put on a registry, for our trans family to told they cannot use the bathroom. I march because if one of us is not free, than none of us are free." -Coco Papy - Metadata URL:
