Fall of the year and the opening of school these two always seem
synonymous. To the freshman this is a significant time in their life, for
in the fall they embark on the long journey which is to continue for four
years. To them we say: "Make the most of your college days and all the
opportunities they afford/ 9

But the days grow short when you reach September.
Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few,
September, November and these few precious days I'll spend with you;

To the jaunty juniors who have reached the spring of their college
years, life takes on a feeling of security and contentment no worries over
approaching graduation and no fears of "ratting." The Juniors have con-
quered the world and all that's in it. To them every day is spring, and
voices are raised to say:
"Welcome sweet springtime,
We greet thee in song.
Murmurs of gladness,
Fall on the ear."

To the suave, sophisticated seniors, who have reached the end of
their college career, life has taken on a new and more profound meaning.
Soon college days will be only memories which will be cherished and held
sacred. These seniors have come to the last mile of their college life.
Looking backward they see a college life filled with joy and beauty, some-
times tinged with sadness; looking forward they see, among many other
things
"Summertime and the living is easy,
Fish are jumping and the cotton is high.
One of these mornings, you're gonna 9 rise up singing,
Hush, Little senior, don't you cry."

"A 2>oo, Will a
Many doors open to you from the very first day you come to La-
Grange. One of the major doors is the one which opens and invites you
to take an active part in the various organizations on the campus. There
is no limit to the number of organizations you may join, and almost
every day you hear a familiar cry of "I have three meetings scheduled
for the same time." The organizations on the "Hill" provide social and
spiritual participation for all.

THE QUADRANGLE
So tired! Yes, we're so tired of waiting for people to pay their
bills: so tired of begging for advertisements; so tired of missing
all the latest movies; so tired of having to say "No" to won-
derful date invitations; and last, but certainly not least, we're
just so tired!
The members of the staff probably aren't the only ones who have
suffered since the early fall, though. The poor inhabitants of
Hawkes, who have had to listen to the pecking of a typewriter and
the raised voices of the staff in Room 210 until the wee hours of
morning, were, we feel sure, just as happy as we to see the
last copy go off to the publisher.

There are so many to whom we are indebted
for their splendid cooperation that it would be
impossible to list them all. However, we wish
to thank Miss Cross for spending many labor-
ious hours proofreading the copies, "Fat"
Johnson for coming rain or shine to make
the numerous pictures, and Mr. Johnny Long
for his patience and understanding and his
much-needed assistance toward making our
annual a success.
Don't be surprised if. when you ask a member
of the 1952 staff about the annual, she begins
pulling her hair and flies into a temper tan-
drum. Seriously though, we have enjoyed
working on the annual staff, and we sincerely
hope that this edition of the Quadrangle meets
Mgr.; Thrasher, Editor; Norris, Associate Editor; Dobbs, Photographic Editor; McCIung, Art Editor,
with your approval. We also hope that in future years
you will often look into this annual and draw from
its pages many cherished memories.
To the staff of the 1953 Quadrangle we extend our most
heartfelt sympathy! We leave to them a box of aspirins,
a ton of patience, and a barrel of energy. We also
suggest that they adopt as their theme song, "I'll
Never Be Free."

STUDENT GOVERNMENT
The Student Government Association, based on powers and laws granted by the
president and faculty, is the democratic symbol of student life on the campus. Ever)
student is a member of the Association and with the aid of the Student Council, the
Association seeks to uphold the high standard of living and scholarship that
characterize the highest and best Christian living on the "Hill."'
During the period of orientation the Student Government seeks to make all
new students feel "at home" on our campus and help them become a vital part of
the student body.
The foremost aim of the Student Government is to be a friend in the truest sense
ol the word to make honor, truth, cooperation, and service the byword of not only
our college days but our future lives.

The Young Women's Christian Association is directed by a cabinet composed of the
officers, the heads of the seven committees, the presidents of other major campus
organizations, and a faculty advisor.
Every L. C. student is a member of our Y.W.C.A. and is given an opportunity
to serve through some phase of committee work.
Through the "Y" the student becomes aware of world affairs and the needs of people
in other countries as well as here in LaGrange. The students support a French child,
Nellie Moulard, and contribute generously to the World Student Service Fund and
C-A-R-E.
The spiritual side of the students' life is nurtured through Vespers, a short devotional
period after supper, and meditations from 10:15 to 10:30 in the Little Chapel.
"Thought for the Day" is placed daily near the Y Bulletin Board. To provide for
other facets of the students' personality, the "Y" entertains students and faculty
at parties, presents various guest artists at Sunday afternoon concerts, and holds a
spring planning retreat.

You look at me with youth's wide, eager eyes,
Mirroring the visions of my yesterday;
I who have come so far, have grown so wise,
What ean I say to you, what ean I say?
You talk to me with youth's exultant lips,
Voicing the hopes that I have known so well;
You who are vihrant to your finger-tips,
What can I tell to you, what can I tell?
Child of the morning, of the wind and dew,
The long road of the years dips into night;
What can I say, what can I say to you?
For where you stand the way is only light.

THE DUNSON MILLS
LaGrange, Georgia
MANY YEARS AGO LaGrange was named by one of her first citizens
"The City of Elms and Roses"; since that time she has also become the CITY
OF COTTON MILLS; and her residents may justly feel a pride in either name.
THE DUNSON MILLS lie on the eastern edge of the city, between the
Atlanta and East Point Railroad and the Atlanta Highway, Route 14. Its
buildings and grounds are among the most attractive in the South today. The
main building and offices are surrounded by a wide expanse of velvety lawns,
green the year round, and approximately planted with flowering and ever-
green shrubs. The mill building is of red brick with white trim, and has a
base planting of shrubbery. The tenement village has some three hundred
houses of three- and four-room types, at all times kept freshly painted white,
with green trim. Every home is provided with electric lights and running
water and has ample room surrounding it for flowers and vegetable gardens,
chickens, and a cow if desired. The City of LaGrange now operates in our
village a most n-odern and commodious Grammar School Building for the
children in our section. The school is equipped with a splendid kitchen and
cafeteria, and has a beautiful auditorium. The company operates at its own
expense a well-equipped kindergarten for the small children. The company
also furnishes a two-story brick building for use as a meeting place for clubs,
lodges, and community gatherings.
A full-time graduate nurse is regularly employed by the company for
the welfare of its employees and their families, and group life insurance at a
very low rate is provided for all those who wish it.
The company a few years ago built two modern brick churches, one of
Old English and one of Colonial design, and besides furnishing light, heat and
janitor service for the congregations using the buildings, also contributes sub-
stantially to the support of the resident pastor.
The Dunson Mills extend greetings and good wishes not only to the La-
Grange College Seniors of 1952 but to all girls on the hill.
