The Springer Opera House, located in Columbus, Georgia, was built by Francis Joseph Springer. The opera house opened February 21, 1871. The opera house closed due to the stock market crash of 1929 and remained closed for many years until 1965. In 1964 the opera house was slated for demolition until a group of concerned citizens raised enough funds to restore and reopen the opera house. In 1998-99 the Springer received a $12 million historic renovation. - Local Identifier:
