- Description:
- In the interview, Mr. Phillips discusses the challenges of purchasing property as a single male in the 1970s-1980s. He and his partner did not frequent the bars and formed a group that alternated hosting dinner parties at their homes. Mr. Mace's partner's family openly accepted their relationship and although his partner died he continues this relationship with his family. He never openly discussed his sexuality with his family but he assumed they knew his preference. Mr. Mace also discusses several vacations with friends and a private travel social club they joined called the Apollo.
Mace Phillips, born in 1929 in Florence, Alabama, moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 1955 after being discharged from the service. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1953 with a degree in industrial management. He worked for Automatic Sprinkler for thirty-five years as a manger for special hazards. - Local Identifier:
