- In the interview, Mr. Whittaker describes the eight years he spent in the military after attending one year of college. He talks about his life in Connecticut, becoming more aware of his sexuality, and he meeting his partner through friends. He and is partner moved to Atlanta because his partner developed health issues related to the cold weather. Mr. Whittaker describes the relationship he and his partner have with their families and the conflicts with religious tenets pertaining to his sexuality.
Mr. Whittaker born in 1942 in Montgomery, Alabama moved to Atlanta, Georgia with his partner in 1984. He spent eight years in the Air Force before moving to Connecticut where his family was living at the time. He earned a master's degree in learning disabilities from Fordham University and teaches individuals that are blind or visually impaired. - Local Identifier:
