- Description:
- Sermon written by Reverend Henry Newton on the nature of the Gospel. Newton first states that passion is a natural part of man and that it has become perverted. He then gives the example of the apostle Paul as someone who, once changed by the Holy Spirit, directs his passions to proper ends. He then quotes Paul telling the Romans that he is not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ and begins to discourse on the nature of Gospel. Newton describes it as good will and glad tidings and encompassing the totallity of the Bible, not just the new testament. He describes it as an account of the designs and works of God, its purpose as salvation of the soul, and as the only means to this end.
