The Legacy staff has decided to begin
a new Seminole tradition. It is our
greatest honor to bestow the dedica-
tion of the 2004-2005 Legacy to Ms.
Pat Stansbury. The student body
agrees that Ms. Stansbury is an asset to
Westside. Not only is she strong in her

Getting Personal with Pot.

Ms. Stansbury was born in Natchez. Mississippi. on February 25, 1950. While attending
Natchez High School. she remembers wearing the ever-so-famous micro-minis and being checked

tor dress code by Mrs. Strand Throughout high school, she raised and showed quarter horses in
her free time.

As a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi. she later received Masters degrees in
both English and Administration and Supervision She says. | stumbled into teaching without a real
plan. lt seems to be my destiny. My mentor told me that you can't avoid a calling An educator
for thirty-two years, Ms. Stansbury shares with others daily the things she loves. Since Westsides
opening. Ms. Stansbury has incorporated an innovative teaching philosphy. I let them have an
apinion and not be threatened You have to create free thinkers, she told us.

Last year. Ms. Stansbury was diagnosed with breast cancer. Today, the cancer is gone. but
she still battles daily for her health Her motto is Carpe Diem, Sieze the Day Ms. Stansbury is
dearly loved by everyone in the Westside High School community. but the Class of 2005 holds
her especially close to their hearts. She is highly involved in all senior activities, and is a valued
senior advisor

Behind the Scenes
Mrs. Peterec is our senior advisor who truly cares for our well being beyond the
bubble of Westside. She feels that students should take responsiblity for them-
selves and their academics during their freshman year. Mrs. Peterec is the safety
net for those who fail to plan and panic about their graduation status. We will
always remember the moments spent crying and laughing in her office. We will
miss the comfort and help she offers the student body here at Westside.

Central swimmers.

The Westside swim team is a
combined swim team with its
neighboring school Central. Amaz-
ingly these normally competitive
schools come together effortlessly to
create a formidable opponent for
neighboring counties. Many of the
students on the team are year-round
swimmers, meaning they swim with
a local club for several hours a day
throughout the year. Then when its
swim season at Westside, seniors like
Heather Jones add an hour of prac-
tice, four nights a week, to the two or
three hours they already do daily
after school. Amazingly, even with
all of that practice time, the students
on the swim team maintain 3.5 or
higher GPAs.

The 2004-2005 season has proven
to be a challenging one so far. The
Seminoles had a new coach as well as
a new team. However, the team has
worked hard to come together for
their meets and their efforts have
paid off. They have placed in the top
three in every meet they have
attended and several swimmers have
qualified for the state meet in Febru-
ary.

Dear Jenn,

There surely can be no
greater evidence of Gods
Love than His Blessing those
united in Holy matrimony
with the birth of a child. On
July 9, 1987, you were born
of love to us, the luckiest
parents in the world. We
wished it would be so, but
had no idea how wonderful it
would be to be your Mom
and Dad. Wonderful its
truly been and wonderful it
truly is.

Over the years, you kept us
in complete amazement and
awe--- from how you dealt
with a broken leg at 18
months to the many displays
of your very creative mind as
a young girl. Until you told
us, we had no idea how frogs
got long tongues. (I bet your
friends dont know!)

How proud we are that you
have grown into a beautiful,
mature young lady who
accepts responsibility, loves
her friends and appreciates
and respects the teachers
and coaches who took an
interest in helping you grow.
How proud we are that you
freely show your love and
respect for us.

We love you, Jenn. Thank
you for being you.

BT.,

We want you to remember this poem for everything you do, because life
will not be a crystal stair. No matter how hard life gets, we want you
to believe in yourself because we always will.

Love,

Mom and Dad

Well, zon, I'll tell you: So boy, dont you turn back.

Life for me ain't been no crystal stair. Don't you set down on the stepy
It's had tacks in it, * Cause you find it's kinder hard.
And splinters, Don't you fall now--

And boards torn up, for I're still goin honey,

And places with no carpet on the floor-- Ive still climbin*

bare. And life for me ain't been

but all the time Mo crystal stair.

I've been a-climbin on,

And reachin* landiny, -Langston Hughes

And turnin* corners. TNother to Jon

And sometimer goin in the dark

Where there ain't been no light.

We are so proud of you!
God Bless you always.
Love, Momma, D & Matt
