Chardae Dozier and Brittany Ferguson dominate the boards against Central as they both go for the rebound. Westsides swimmers make a big splash in the pool, swimming alongside Central swimmers. The Westside swim team is a combined swim team with its neighboring school Central. Amaz- ingly these normally competitive schools come together effortlessly to create a formidable opponent for neighboring counties. Many of the students on the team are year-round swimmers, meaning they swim with a local club for several hours a day throughout the year. Then when its swim season at Westside, seniors like Heather Jones add an hour of prac- tice, four nights a week, to the two or three hours they already do daily after school. Amazingly, even with all of that practice time, the students on the swim team maintain 3.5 or higher GPAs. The 2004-2005 season has proven to be a challenging one so far. The Seminoles had a new coach as well as a new team. However, the team has worked hard to come together for their meets and their efforts have paid off. They have placed in the top three in every meet they have attended and several swimmers have qualified for the state meet in Febru- ary. er Dasinger To me the most amazing thing about coaching this group is seeing so many diverse stu- dents from different schools and backgrounds come to- gether and intereact and have fun the way we do.
