This day personally [deleted text: appear ] came Harry Morris before me S. G. R. Mount one of the acting Justices of the Peace in and for said county -- and after hearing the within power of Attorney [added text: to William H. Thomas ] read and fully explained, signed it for the purposes therein contained given under my hand and seal

I Drury Weeks, clerk of the court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions held for said county -- hereby certify [added text: that ] S. G. R. Mount, whose proper signiture [signature] appears to the above certificate is and was at the date thereof an acting Justice of the peace in and for said county, and [unclear text: testifies ] that the [unclear text: interlining ] was done at the time the power of Attorney was read, and due forth, and credit is and ought to be given to his official acts as such given under my hand and seal of office

Know all men by these presents [presence] that I [unclear text: Harry ] Morris [unclear text: part ] Cherokee, who on the
23d of May 1836 resided in the County of Cherokees and State of North Carolina, who was provided for under the act of Congress of
July 29th 1848, Hereby nominate constitute and appoint William H. Thomas of Haywood county and State aforesaid my true and Lawful attorney to prosecute all my claims against the United States of every nature and description and in my name and my behalf receive and receipt for, to the proper officers of the United States Government sums of money as may be allowed to me, and I hereby Authorise [Authorize] my Attorney to place or caused to be placed [deleted text: [unclear text: upon ] ] my name upon the census list. I further Authorize my attorney to Draw all monies due me from the government of the United States and receipt and receive of and to the proper officers of the United States Government all the money now due, or which may here after become due to me under the said act of
July 29th 1848. By which it provided that the sum of $53.33 shall be [unclear text: set ] a part in the Treasury of the United States bearing an interest of six per cent payable annually and also that the Back interest shall be paid from the
23d of May 1836 to the date of said act which Amounts to the sum of $38.98 due to each Cherokee for Back Interest and $3.19 as the annual Interest payable to each Cherokee Indian that remained in the state of North Carolina on the
23d of May 1836,
And where as the said Thomas has been many years engaged in prosecuting said claims and incured [incurred] large expenses therein, I hereby covenant and agree on my part, my heirs and assigns with said Thomas his heirs and assigns That on all monies which has been or may be allowed to me on my claims either invested or paid he shall in addition to such debts as may be due him from me, be intitled [entitled] to receive ten per cent for his services, and as the services of an Attorney residing in Washington may become necessary. I hereby Authorize my Attorney to employ one or more Attorneys under him with similar power. In Testimony whereof I [added text: have ] hereunto set my hand and seal this
