Power of Attorney from the Cherokee Indians of Qualla Town to William H. Thomas

Know all men by these presents that we the Undersigned Cherokee Indians belonging to Qualla Town who have become citizens of the State of North Carolina here by nominate Constitute and appoint our worthy friend William H Thomas and adopted Cherokee of this town now in Washington City our true and lawful Attorney in fact to superintend the management of all our claims against the Government of the United States for property &c [et cetera] and also all claims arising under or provided for in the Cherokee treaties of
1817 -
1819 and
1835 before the present Board of Commissioners or any others which may be appointed to examine and adjudicate the claims of the Cherokee Indians. Also before the Congress of the United States or any of the Departments of the Government or agents thereof until recovery is made and to receive [unclear text: & ] receipt there for and to do all other acts we could do if personally present. We further Authorise [Authorize] our sd [said] Attorney to procure for us the passage of such resolutions and Laws as he may deem for our benefit both by Congress and the Legislature of the State of North Carolina. We further authorise [authorize] our said Attorney to appoint one or more Attorney or Attorneys under him to aid in the management of sd [said] Claims and business referred to; we do authorise [authorize] the payment to him and them of a fair compensation for their services. And we hereby declare this power of Attorney irrevocable until the business referred to is completed. And we further Authorise [Authorize] our sd [said] Attorney to fully represent us in all things with the State of North Carolina or the Government of the United States. And to have full power and control to enter [hole in document] arrangement which he may deem necessary to recover our claims or to promote our [hole in document: interests ] after recovery is made hereby ratifying and confirming what he may lawfully do therein.
And we for ourselves and families hereby [unclear text: covenant ] & agree with the sd [said] Thomas his heirs or [unclear text: assigns ] that their power of Attorney shall be irrevocable until all the business specified therein is completed.
