- This is a letter from William Grant to William Holland Thomas, dated January 30, 1846. Grant thanks Thomas for updating him on the status of the Cherokee claims. Grant also attempts to enlist Thomas' efforts in prosecuting several claims in which he is interested since Grant says that he has lost confidence in the abilities of John F. Gillaspie.

Dear sir
I have delayed writing to you for a long time But now hasten to say a fiew [few] things and inform you that I have your leter [letter] dated
June 3d. 1845 before me in which you were kind anough [enough] to give me all the information you were in posesion [possession] of at that time in Relation to cherokee clames [claims] East and hope you will continue to do so through the sesion [session] of congress and not only on that subject But all others of importance that may take place but especially as that is of more importance than all the rest on that I would want to be advised as I stated to you that I had lost all confidence in esqr. [esquire] Gellespie but this as I told you to [added text: be ] confidential he informed me that he had associated with Genl. [General] John H. Eaton to assist in the prosecution of those clames [claims] that I am interested in which I am verry [very] well satisfyed [satisfied] with if it be so of this you will please inform me any information you may give will be considered [added text: as ] confidential if you will pay some attention to these maters [matters] when a new Board is formed if one should be formed at all and these maters [matters] come up for ad Justment [adjustment] and I should get any thing [anything] I will divide with you the clames [claims] I have an Interest in are the clame [claim] of, Toco will, Culsowee, Charles Mcintosh and Jyostah or Spoyler heirs anna & akah

I saw a leter [letter] to G. W. Parks writen [written] by you on the subject of his clame [claim] against Ross in which you made two propositions one for a certain pr. cent [percent] [deleted text: or ] and him be acountable [accountable] for cost &.c. [et cetera] or you would Prosecute the suit and be acountable [accountable] for all cost believing you would be able to prosecute with effect I advised him to take the one half as you had proposed if I done rong [wrong] inform me and if you should have any business to transact in this cuntry [country] that I can be of any advantage to you inform [added text: me ] and I will take a pleasure in attending to it and any service you can Render me will be thankfully Received
