your favor of the
7th inst [instant] was recd [received] this morning. In relation to the claim refered [referred] to. I shall submit that queston [question] as soon as the one now under consideration is disposed of which I presume will be in the course of this week The Secretary of War some time since Completed his action on the report made by the Com IA [Commissioner of Indian Affairs] . The rights of the cherokees East to percapita [per capita] improvements and spoliations &c [et cetera] have been Confirmed most of which [added text: if not all ] Will I think be placed on interest for the benefit of those people to be applied to education &c [et cetera] on the claim for commutation of removal &c [et cetera] $55000 I have obtained a Conditional favorable decision, but in some respects different from what I Consider authorised [authorized] by the treaty. to ascertain the true construction of which and making arguments to get the President to refer that and preemptive claims to the Atto [Attorney] general. The whole of my business I am in hopes will be completed in this month, at furthest I am anxious to see my native Country once more I will give your respects to the members [added text: for your kind offer and wishes ] please accept of my Gratiful [Grateful] acknowledgments for please give my respects to your wife as well as your father and mother with such of your other relations and my acquaintances as may enquire [inquire] about me
