- This is a letter sent to John Timson and friends by William Holland Thomas in which Thomas says that he has submitted an argument in support of the rights of the Eastern Cherokees. Thomas also mentions strife among the Cherokees who emigrated due in part to the murders of Major Ridge, his son John and Elias Boudinot. At the close of the letter, notation is made of several duplicates sent to other persons. The original enclosure is no longer attached.

Dear friends
I have prepared and submitted an argument in support of the rights of the Cherokees East of the Mississippi, a printed copy of which is herewith enclosed It is intended to be used before the different Departments as occasion may require, As your rights and those of your children are condensed therein under the various treaties made with the United [word omitted: States ] . I supposed on that account if no other it might be acceptable to you and worth preserving to show your children what their rights [deleted text: were ] are
General [illegible text] US troops at Fort Gibson has demanded the murderers of the Ridges and Boudinott and

Ross has refused to give them up preparations are making to take them by force, until that difficulty is settled I think it would be advisable for the Cherokees East to have no correspondence with those west. I hope soon to have the pleasure of seeing you all when I can explain my views more fully. give my respects to enquiring [inquiring] friends
