- This is a letter to Preston Starritt (also Starrett), dated September 6, 1839, from William Holland Thomas. Thomas tells Starritt that he will leave Washington City soon and stop in Raleigh to settle with the state relative to the Oconaluftee Road. Duplicates of this letter that were sent to several others are noted at the bottom of the document, and one includes a note to tell the Cherokee Indians to be sober, industrious and friendly.
