His Excellency John Sevier.
Sir
we have the honour [honor] to inclose [enclose] you a copy of a resolution of the General assembly of this State relative to the laying off and opening a road from the State of Tenesee through the Cherokee Nation to the State of Georgia we also inclose [enclose] you a copy of our appointments as commissioners for that purpose presuming you have been officially notified by the Secretary of war [added text: as ] to the mode proposed for carrying this desirable object into effect. We take the liberty of notifying your Excellency that we are in re [added text: a ] diness to proceed to the duties contemplated by the said resolution and propose to meet commissioners or such persons [added text: as ] you may have appointed by your state to meet at James Vans in the Cherokee Nation on the
15th. Day of August next for that purpose of which contemplated meeting with the commissioners of Tenessee [deleted text: who ] [added text: we ] have by this conveyance informed Col. [Colonel] Meigs but should your Excellency find it necessary to alter either the time or place you will please to communicate such alteration to us by our express, and also to Col. [Colonel] Meigs; that that [that] he may apprise the Indian Chiefs of the same
