Sir,
Yr [Your] Honor expressed a wish to see the Contract again I now inclose it, also a Letter with sundry Papers in it which I have just received from the Contractors and which I must beg to hand to yr honble. [your honorable] Board for their direction. -- Inclosed I also beg leave to hand copy of my Receipt to Messrs. Hillhouse & Kellogg which amounts to nearly a Thousand Pounds; and payments to them for the State will nearly amount to 1500£ when the Accounts

come in, a statemt. [statement] of which I hope to be able to lay before the Board in a few days. --
I have received the orders of the Board dated the
14th and shall pay due attention thereto, this order [unclear text: with ] a draft on me from the Sheriff of Chatham County will make it necessary that yr. honble. [your honorable] Board shoud [should] determine as to the Rice Plantation mentioned in a former Letter; because if it is adviseable [advisable] for the state to pay the difference, it shoud [should] be aranged [arranged] for

by drafts on the Treasury and Titles procured and the same sold in order to procure Articles for the Treaty in part and remit the 2000 Dolls. I had the honor of your favour [favor] of last evening with the inclosure, The necessity of the case and your application only; has induced me to appoint, expressly, as an assistant or Deputy Commissary for this District,, Captain William Thompson, is the person I have thought qualified untill [until] the [illegible text] of the Commissary General, on that head, is known; As his receipts will I conceive be fully satisfactory. You will [deleted text: [illegible text] ] please to furnish that Gentleman with such Rations, agreeable to Contract, as he may judge necessary for the Subsistance [Subsistence] of the Troops --
I should have sooner answerd [answered] your favour [favor], but some very necessary & material state business intervened --

I recd [received] yours of the 10 Instant, but not till the 15 as the Wagoner Jno. [John] [unclear text: Baly ] informed me he had no Letter for me, but has since sent it up from Capt. Hortons Station, and as I had no convenient way of weighing the Beef I onely [only] sent you a Receipt for four Bieves [Beeves] [illegible text] not ascertaind [ascertained]
I receivd [received] the Rum you directed which appeard [appeared] by his orders 15 Gallons - Part of the Troops has removed to Phillips which is furnishd [furnished] from the [unclear text: Stocks ] you sent up and Meal from Livingstones Mill - I requested Capt [unclear text: Lipham ] to come up & Issue to the Stations that was to be furnishd [furnished] from my House, But he answered it was not in his power to attend, as he had more [deleted text: to ] on his Hands where he was than he could possibly get through with. In consequence of which I have appointed Mr. James Finney who I am confident will honestly do his duty, and I shall find him in a few days with a Wagon to you for further supplies --

I applyed [applied] to Mr Lipham [unclear text: as ] you told me to furnish the nescessary [necessary] supplies for the stations in Greene which stood in neede [need] thereof but he refused as you may see by his Letter which I have herein enclosed [edge of document] as there was such an absolute nececessity [necessity] for an immediate supply Have appointed the [unclear text: Bearer ] Mr Jas [James] Finney to furnish (as Commisary [Commissary] ) The stations of Carmicaels Phillips'es Cribs's & Langs - Who I am well convinced will will [will] faithfully discharge The office & very capable of the same -- He has already furnished all except Carmicaels which you informed me Capt Williamson would furnish in his arrival to that place -- But have just received an express from Capt Williamson & well as from Capt Grisham informing me that the Indians last Thursday night & last night attacked Carmicaels station & endeavoured [endeavored] to Burn the same but was prevented By some difficulty - Capt Williamson Requests an immediate supply of Provision informing me he has but one Days supply -- & without an immediate supply must Evacuate the place - And as the nescessity [necessity] appears & absolutely is so great I hope youl [you'll] discharge the bearer with nesscessary [necessary] orders as well as a sufficient Quanti [document damaged: ty of ] liquors & [illegible text] for the differente [different] stations [document damaged]
