Fort Hawkins
21 Dec. [December] 1814
We have information from our Chiefs which they rely on as true that "Ten British Vessels have arrived at Deer Island, seven of them large, with Black troops mostly, on board, the three small Vessels have ammunition and presents for the Indians. 300 men were landed and put in the Fort at Forbes's store. an Invitation is sent from them to the Indians to come and receive presents, all the Red sticks have arrived, there and all runaway negros [negroes] are gone to the British"

Yours respectfully Dear Sir yr obt Sv [your obedient Servant]
[Signed] Benjamin Hawkins
Governor Early
