Several of the friendly Indians who lived on Flint river, have complained to me, that while they were with our army against the hostile Indians, several parties of unprincipled men from Georgia, come over Ocmulgee and drove off all their cattle, and left them in the utmost distress. One of the parties is said to be headed by a Claborn Foster not far from Greensborough. another by Daniel Ellis living near Ocmulgee. the transaction is of notoriety on the frontier, and the parties concerned have 100 as fine cattle of their own. The party under Ellis came near to my Cowpen and drove off a gang belonging to me, some to the public, to Mr. Abercrombe an Indian with an Indian horse and others which I have had traced up.
I have sent out some people to aid the Indians, and it appears their charge is true, that all their cattle between Flint and [deleted text: Chattahooche ] Ocmulgee have been driven across Ocmulgee. If it is possible a remedy should be applied. The Chiefs request me to communicate this to you [added text: [illegible text] ] not to find a [illegible text] in future, for they have nothing to loose [lose], but to see if it is not practicable to detect the thieves and make them pay for their thefts."

I have the honor to be Very respectfully Sir your obedient Servt [Servant]
[Signed] Benjamin Hawkins
Peter Earley Governor of Georgia.
