- This is a letter dated December 2, 1814 from Henry B. Wigginton at the Creek Agency to Colonel Benjamin Hawkins, agent to the Creek Indians. Wigginton reports that someone called young (Barnard?) arrived at the Agency to report that he had been stopped from pursuing runaway slaves by the Chehaws, who told him that a war party was on its way to the Creek Agency. Barnard sent George Lovitt to relay this news to Hawkins and to his father (Timothy Barnard?). Barnard says that the elder Chehaws then went down and managed to temporarily stop the war party, and he asks that Hawkins provide the Uchees under his command with provisions so that they can remain on guard should the war party resume its course. Wigginton refers to Barnard's letter (no longer attached), and includes a note about having run across some of their hogs. Also mentioned are (Thomas?) Perryman's connection with the British and the escape of (John?) Canard's (also Kennard) slaves to an unnamed location.

young Barned arrived at this place late this Evning [Evening] and gives the following infermation [information] he stats [states] to me -- thrugh [through] John Smith the Publick interpertur [Public interpreter] --
he was down at the cheehaws where he was stoped [stopped] from persuin [pursuing] further after our negros [negroes] -- by receving [receiving] the Infermation [Information] of the war party being on their march for the agency and all the forts on this line -- he amediately despached [immediately dispatched] Gorge Lovit to you and his father -- and Staid [Stayed] at the Cheehaws him Self in view of watching their movements -- after lovit left that place -- the Cheehaws went down to find out the truth and their corse [course] -- and all the old men of the Cheehaw town went down to try to Stop them if posable [possible] -- and told them they war [were] all going to run mad and quit their dances and Jine [Join] the white peaple [people] and they could git [get] something to Eat the cheehaw Chefs [Chiefs] and them air [are] all in Counsel [Council] and has stoped [stopped] them for sum [some] few days but cannot say what tenth of time -- and further stats [states] that Peariman had [deleted text: started for pen ]

returned back to his town where their [there] is one of the British offersers [officers] and said afte [after] he could send a runner to pencecoler he would cum [come] on -- the British offerser [officer] told them if they did not go and spil [spill] blood -- he would take from them all his guns again --
old connards negros has all gon [gone] to sum [some] [unclear text: Fort ] -- and ours had got down one day before he could git [get] down and made for the hostils [hostiles] party -- the horses was taken down their [there] also -- the hostiles Indians had agread [agreed] divided to atack [attack] 3 of our forts at wonce [once] their forces was not known
Sir this is a request of young Barneds
he wants you to order all the uchees under his command and a way for them to be fed and he will keepe [keep] them out on gard [guard] and [illegible text] out in Every direction and be as solders [soldiers] -- but he cannot with out sumthing [something] to Eat -- and if you will pervide [provide] for them -- and sum amination [some ammunition] they will be at your command young Barned was cumpnied [accompanied] by uchee mico a uchee Cheef [Chief] . -- he will wate her [wait here] until the 3 at nite [night] for your reply

I cum [come] across a large pasel [passel] of our fatinning hoggs [fattening hogs] today with them 2 large Hors [Horse] -- we went to fetch them and th [the] Cur he would not [unclear text: tech [touch] ] the Barres [Barrows] and spaid [spayed] sows and persued [pursued] a large old Bore [Boar] -- we tried Every way to git [get] him of [off] -- after a while the boys got to him where he was lying with his throat Cutt [Cut] and was ded [dead] and tore all to peaces their [pieces there] was 8 large spaid [spayed] sows and Barrows I shot one it was very fat I shall [document damaged: try ] to kill the ballance [balance] in the morning
