- This document dated July 3, 1821 is the affidavit of Stephen H. Gilmore of Morgan County, Georgia stating that the name of Burnwell Matthews, and not Burmville or Burnville Matthews, appears in the list of persons entitled to a draw in the recent land lottery that disposed of former Creek lands in the counties of Early, Irwin, and Appling. The land was distributed pursuant to the Treaty of Indian Springs, signed January 8, 1821. Gilmore's signature appears on the document.

I Stephen H Gilmore residing in the Militia Company District of 396 Captain Loyd, Major [illegible text] ' Battalion, in the county aforesaid, do hereby Certify that at the time the names of persons entitled to Draws in the lottery disposing of the Territory then lately acquired from the Creek Indians, & now composing the Counties of Early, Irvine, Appling &ca. &ca. [et cetera et cetera], were taken in, there was a married man of the name of Burwell Matthews resident in said District, but no person of the name of Burmville or Burnville Matthews residing therein --
