- This document contains the affidavit, dated July 2, 1795, of Oliver Rock on behalf of William Scantling, a soldier in Captain Wood's company, who was killed fighting unidentified Indians. The second statement is signed by John Clark, former Lieutenant Colonel of said force. Both state that Scantling faithfully discharged his duties as a soldier and that he had yet to receive any compensation for his services. His widow Elizabeth is identified as his legal representative.

Personally came before me one of the Justices of the Piece [Peace] for the County aforesaid Lieutenent [Lieutenant] Oliver Rock and made oath that William Scantling was a Soldier in Capt [Captain] Woods company of late State Troops and that he faithfully Served till he got Killed by the Indians that he did not serve as a Substitute and that he hath received no compensation for his Services therefor [therefore] -- and that Elizabeth Scantling is the widow and legal representative of the said Wm [William] Scantling.
