Personally came before me one of the Justices of the Piece [Peace] for the County aforesaid Lieutenent [Lieutenant] Oliver Rock and made oath that William Scantling was a Soldier in Capt [Captain] Woods company of late State Troops and that he faithfully Served till he got Killed by the Indians that he did not serve as a Substitute and that he hath received no compensation for his Services therefor [therefore] -- and that Elizabeth Scantling is the widow and legal representative of the said Wm [William] Scantling.

From the within Affidavit of Lieut. [Lieutenant] Oliver Rock It appears that William Scantling was a Soldier in the late State Troops and that he Discharged his Duty as such untill [until] he was Killed by the Indians
