Description:
Letter dated May 9, 1826 from John Macpherson Berrien, U.S. Senator from Georgia, to George Troup, Governor of Georgia (1823-1827). Berrien informs Troup that he is enclosing a copy of an unidentified bill that is no longer attached (probably the proclamation of the Treaty of Washington, D.C. with the Creeks), just passed in the House of Representatives. Berrien mentions the deliberations on the nomination of Col. David Brearly (as U.S. agent appointed to superintend Creek emigration, also referred to herein.) He states that the McIntosh party (those Creeks aligned with slain leader William McIntosh) will be allowed to return the Creek Nation. This letter is related to tcc685, tcc686, tcc688, and tcc689.
