23rd April with the Two thousand Dollars by Mr. Micklejohn has ben [been] Received
I have Just Returned from the post ocupied [occupied] by Captain Jernigan & Johnson and have made arrangements to suply [supply] both detachments for a short time
In consequence of the Scarcity of corn it is with grate [great] difficulty it can be obtained, within Sixty Miles of the posts -- nor for less then one dollar pr [per] Bushel -- In consequence of the high prices and Grate [Great] distance to transport Suplys [Supplies] I Shall Indever [Endeavor] to make the most of my purchases in Savannah as they can be obtaind [obtained] on better turms [terms] then in this country --, a considerable loss will be Sustaned [Sustained] on the Central Bank money it is at a consederable [considerable] discount in this Section of cuntry perticklar [country particular] in Savannah
it appears from the Tenor of your letter uncertain what Length of time this force will be continued in the field -- which makes it more Troblesom [Troublesome] for me to know what amount of Supplies to purchase at any one time

I Should like verry [very] much to be informd [informed] by your Excellancy [Excellency] if the Troops will be contained for a longer turm [term] then three months -- as I can be better able to make purchases to meet the turm [term] of Service
the Bond Mentioned in your letter has been Executed and forwarded by mail Some time past and I persume [presume] has Reached you by this time in Regard to the amount due me by the General Government for Services as Quarter master for Major Bourn Battalion I am not able to give you -- as I am intirely unaquanted [entirely unaquainted] with the pay alowd [allowed] a quarter master
as I persure [presume] you have the Regulations you are better able to know the pay allowd [allowed] which you will please assertain [ascertain] if posable [possible] and forward the amount the certificate of Major Bourn will Show the length of time I Clame [Claim] pay for before Entring [Entering] on the duties of my office Captain Jernigan and Johnson made Some Small purchases and in consequs [consequence] of there having no funds on hand and could make no [deleted text: payment ] [added text: asurance [assurance] ] when these Suplys [Supplies] could be paid for thay [they] had to alow [allow] one dollar

and fifty cents per Bushel for corn
Should these whom these purchases have been made by Capten [Captain] Jernigan and Johnson be curtailed thare [there] account to the purchases made by me will I be authorised [authorized] to pay them out of the funds Sent by your Excellancy [Excellency]
the ondly descoverys [only discoveries] of Indian Sign from the last Seven days Scout in and thrue [through] the Islants [Islands] of this Swamp is said to be the tracks of a bout [about] Six in number and thay [they] of differant [different] Sizes Round a Lake whare [where] it is Suposed thay [Supposed they] had been fishing and Suposed [Supposed] to have ben [been] then days old
