March 19th 1842

His Excellency Charles J McDonald
Sir,
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Express by the hand of Mr Kirkland which reached me the 14th Instant at Night, and in obedience to your order sent by express to Capt Jernigan and have this day received an acknowledgement [acknowledgment] from him of the Receipt of the packet which reached him the 17th Inst [Instant] I have also organized the force directed by you and placed them under the Command of Capt Johnson viz Thirty men,) and despached [dispatched] one of the men to Capt Jernigan informing him of the force being out and ready to obey his order, I ordered them to patroll [patrol] the Country in in [in] vicinity of where Mrs Oglesby was murdered untill [until] Capt Johnson should receive orders from Capt Jernigan after which he would obey his order

PS the distance from my residence to Capt Jernigans is Eighty five miles the express I sent by Mr Amos Emanuel
